    could you make a mushroom? some mushrooms (like chantarelles) have deep, thin lamellae and irregular geometries, so I can imagine that it would be more difficult to make a (brush on) mold. how about a mold from a spikey chestnut burr? this seems very hard, given the thin protruding parts

    Having been spoiled by silicone tending not to stick to anything whatsoever, I made a rather important polyurethane mold, that encased eight sla-printed, hand-finished masters, without a release agent ...rather painful way of learning that polyurethane is an EXCELLENT adhesive. Probably my most expensive paperweight to date 😂

    Why use Smooth Cast instead of something like Duo Matrix Neo? What are the pros and cons of each for cold casting?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon 19 днів тому

      Thanks for watching. Both materials will produce a fantastic cold casting! It will depend on what you are looking for. Neo will be heavier in weight than Smooth-Cast 325 will. Smooth-Cast allows us the ability to back fill the casting with a much lighter weight material. Neo gives a very nice finish because it is a gypsum. So it will depend what you are looking for. If you have further questions you can reach out to our technical support team. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!

    Do I have to preheat the mould?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon 21 день тому

      You don't have to preheat. It is done to help reduce the pot life of the material so that he is not spending a long period of time rotationally casting. 7-10 minutes spinning a mold around can get very exhausting quickly.

  • @audioleech
    @audioleech 23 дні тому

    I could watch you make molds all day, great content. With the mold @ 1:12:24 you could have also just tilted the base of the mold and let it cure a bit "crooked" instead of adding more material later.

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon 21 день тому

      When you pour a material into that mold you will have a casting that will not be level. If that doesn't matter for the piece you are making that would be a good solution. Thanks for watching!
